Pastor Derek and his wife Dawn Harman have two boys, Becket age 5 and Leo age 2. They have had a long interest in International Ministry. Pr Derek spent seven of his childhood years living with missionary parents in Trinidad and Geneva. After seminary studies in California, Derek and Dawn moved to Mariensee, Germany for his internship year, where they learned the German language and cultivated their appreciation of living cross-culturally.

Since Derek’s ordination in 2007, he served a congregation in Massachusetts and a congregation in Redwood City, California. About parish ministry, Pastor Derek wrote: “As a pastor, I am much more interested in developing lay leadership than in being ‘THE leader’. The pastor does have a specific leadership role in a congregation, however, my sense of pastoral leadership is that pastor and congregation are called to be in mission together and I encourage that in every way that I can.”

Dawn has past experience in human resources work and supporting unaccompanied minor youth from Latin America. She worked in organising educational travel seminars to Latin America and Southern Africa and accompanied groups to Nicaragua and Cuba.
